Track 1:  Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Medical images are pictures of distributions of physical attributes captured by an image acquisition system. Most of today’s images are digital. They may be post processed for analysis by a computer-assisted method. Medical images come in one of two varieties: Projection images project a physical parameter in the lung disease in human body on a 2D image, while slice images produce a one-to-one mapping of the measured value. International radiology conferences explore the new technologies in medical images. Medical images may show anatomy including the pathological variation of anatomy if the measured value is related to it or physiology when the distribution of substances is traced. X-ray imaging, CT, Dynamic MRI, nuclear imaging, ultrasound imaging, and Cellular imaging is the study of living cells using time-lapse microscopy, photography. The discussion focuses on the relationship between the imaged physical entity and the information shown in the image, as well as on reconstruction methods and the resulting artefacts.

Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a non-invasive imaging modality that uses high frequency sound waves to produce a dynamic visual image of the internal organs or tissues in the body including abdominal organs, a developing foetus, male or female reproductive organs, and blood flow. Medical Sonography is an imaging modality that works in conjunction with other imaging techniques such as x-ray, MRI, CAT scans and nuclear medicine studies. There is a large scope of ultrasound techniques in obstetrics, gynaecology and vascular medicine.

Track 7: General Vascular Technology

General Vascular Technology is that which uses ultrasound waves to evaluate the body’s circulatory system and help identify blockages and detect blood clots. A Doppler ultra sound study which evaluates the blood flow through blood vessel. It provides a clear picture of soft tissues that doesn’t show up well on x-ray images.

Track 9: Ultra Sound Physics & Instrumentation

Ultra sound is a longitudinal mechanical wave transmitted through the medium by local displacement of particles within the medium. Ultrasound uses frequencies above the human audible range between 20Hz and 20.000Hz. Ultrasound images also known as sonograms are made by sending pulses of ultrasound into tissue using a probe. Curved type scanners for probes, linear with high resolution used for liver surface texture, 3D Transducer, Mechanical 3D Transducers, controls, artefacts.

Track 12: Risks and Side effects of Sonography

"Diagnostic ultrasound is recognized as a safe, effective, and highly flexible imaging modality capable of providing clinically relevant information about most parts of the body in a rapid and cost-effective fashion". Although there is no evidence ultrasound could be harmful for the foetus.

Track 13: New Directions in Sonography

Additional expansion or additional technique of ultrasound is biplane ultrasound which has probe has two 2D planes that are perpendicular to each other providing more efficient localization and detection. Omni plane prove is one that can rotate to obtain multiple images, in 3D ultrasound many 2D plane are digitally added together to create a 3D image of the object. The option to continue or abort a pregnancy is the primary choice after most prenatal testing. Rarely, foetal intervention corrective procedures are possible. Knowing about certain birth defects such as a spina vifida and teratoma before birth may give the option of foetal surgery during pregnancy.

Importance and Scope:  Sonography is a Diagnostic Ultrasound Profession is a multi-specialty field comprised of Diagnostic Medical Sonography with subspecialties in abdominal, neurologic, obstetrical/gynaecologic and ophthalmic ultrasound, Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography with subspecialties in adult and paediatric echocardiography, Vascular Technology, and other emerging fields.
